How do I add my bank account to Apartments.com?

(For renters)

On Apartments.com, you can connect your bank account using your online bank login or manually entering your bank details.

Before we start sending payments from that bank account, we need to make sure that you're the account holder!

If you link your bank account to Apartments.com using your online bank login, called Plaid, it'll be automatically verified. We don't support logins for all banks right now, so you might need to manually input your account and routing number to link your account if you're not locating your bank using this option.


First Step:

When you enter a new bank account, we'll send two small deposits (both less than $1), to your bank account within 1-3 business days.

Note: These deposits that we send temporarily are Apartments.com's money and about a week later will be pulled back. Make sure you have enough money in your bank account or you might overdraft!

Second Step:

Once you see these amounts in your bank account, enter them on your Banks & Cards page by clicking on "Verify Amounts".

Note: You only have 10 attempts to verify, so entering random guesses will lead to a lockout. If you're sure you're entering the right amounts, and it's still not working, email support@apartments.com.

Third Step:

If the two amounts you enter are correct, your bank account will be immediately verified and the process will be complete:

Tip: Any scheduled payments that are pending due to the bank verification process will start processing shortly after you verify your bank account.  

Where are the deposits?

If you only see one deposit, contact your bank to help locate them. Sometimes banks combine amounts this small. 

If it's been over a week since you connected your bank account, we've probably pulled the deposits back since these were temporary. Try checking your bank account around the time you entered your account details as your bank should still have a record of what was deposited.

If you're able to re-add the account, it means that there was probably an error or typo the first time you added it. If you are unable to re-add it, that means you entered the same numbers as before. If that’s the case, please contact Customer Support at rentpayments@apartments.com. 

How can I get set up using Plaid, the Online bank login...

First Step:

When setting up the account to pay rent online, after clicking Add New Account, you will be given the option to manually input a bank account or select Plaid to automatically sync it with the payment system. 

Second Step:

On the Plaid window, you can select a bank from the list of major financial institutions. 

You can also use the search bar to find your bank. 

Third Step:

Once you have found your bank and logged into the account successfully using Plaid, that should automatically sync that bank account to Apartments.com so you can pay rent.  

Tip: There are certain banks that you will be unable to add using Plaid, including Capital One. If your bank or financial institution can't be added using Plaid, it will need to be manually added.
