How do I add my bank account to Apartments.com?

(For renters)

On Apartments.com, you can connect your bank account using your online bank login or manually entering your bank details.

Before we start sending payments from that bank account, we need to make sure that you're the account holder! We verify accounts using two different methods.

You can manually enter your bank account information and following steps to verify the account or you can link your bank account by using Stripe. If you link your bank account to Apartments.com by using Stripe to access your online bank login, the account will be automatically verified. We don't support Stripe logins for all banks right now, so you may have to manually input your account and routing number to link your account if you cannot locate your bank using Stripe.

How do I add my bank account manually?

First Step:

When setting up your account to pay rent online, select Add New Account. You will be given the option to manually input a bank account or use Stripe to automatically sync it with the payment system. Select the option to manually input your bank account details.

Second Step:

Once you've added your account information, we'll send one small deposit (less than one dollar) to your bank account within one to three business days.

Note: The deposit we send is temporary and will be pulled back about a week later. Make sure you have enough money in your bank account or you might overdraft!

Third Step:

Once you see the deposit in your bank account, open the deposit details and locate the SM code in the memo line. The code will start with "SM" followed by a four digit character code.

Note: The four digit character code could be a combination of numbers and letters.

Fourth Step:

Go back to Apartments.com, sign into your account, and then go to Banks & Cards to verify the code. If the code you enter on your Banks & Cards page is correct, your bank account will be immediately verified.

Important: You only have 10 attempts to verify your bank account. Entering random guesses will lead to a lockout. If you're sure you're entering the right code, but it's still not working, email support@apartments.com.

Where is the deposit?

If it's been over a week since you connected your bank account, we've probably pulled the deposit back since it was temporary. Try checking your bank account around the time you entered your account details as your bank should still have a record of what was deposited.

If you're able to re-add the account, it means that there was probably an error or typo the first time you added it. If you are unable to re-add it, that means you entered the same numbers as before. If that’s the case, please contact Customer Support at rentpayments@apartments.com

How can I add my bank account using Stripe, the online bank login?

First Step:

When setting up your account to pay rent online, select Add New Account. You will be given the option to manually input a bank account or use Stripe to automatically sync it with the payment system. Select the option to use Stripe and Agree to link your account.

Second Step:

On the Stripe window, you can select a bank from the list of major financial institutions. You can also use the search bar to find your bank.

Third Step:

Once you find your bank using Stripe select Continue then log into your account successfully, the bank account automatically syncs to Apartments.com so you can pay rent.

Important: There are certain banks that you will be unable to add using Stripe, including Capital One. If your bank or financial institution can't be added using Stripe, it will need to be manually added and verified
